A small Spartan army, you've probably already guessed how small, has to defend a narrow pass into Greece against a huge Persian army.

This has everything that movies of this type have from this time in movie making; bravado, honor, politics, love, betrayal, and more bravado. They also took great care in costumes; the Spartans looked very sharp in their red and gold uniforms and the enemy looke menacing in their black uniforms. My favorite line from the movie was spoken by a old man, a sheep hearder, after his wife made a disparaging comment about men. He leaned over to a young warrior and stated "Who can understand the way of the Gods? They create lovely girls and then turn them into wives." Honey, if you're reading this, I'm just kidding. :-)

As with most epics made in this time period, the fight scenes are a bit dated and some of the acting is a bit "over the top". Compared to what the movie industry can do with today's technology, some of these scenes can come across as comical.
