Plot

A Spartan King has to buck tradition and defy laws when he's forced to defend his nation against a huge Persian army with only, you guessed it, 300 men.

Pros

Great visuals and incredible audio track. This movie entertains without worrying about boring people with lots of details or long scenes of dialogue; perfect for people that don't like to think while watching a film. The battle scenes were large without as much gore as I was expecting but I was expecting tons of gore. If you're paying attention, the dialogue will bring a smile to your face from time-to-time. Ladies get to see a bunch of muscled up guys running around half-naked and the guys will get a couple topless female shots in return. And, according to the experts that speak in one of the extras on disc two, the portrayal of Spartan life in this movie is accurate.

Cons

Why are all evil kings in films "strange" (and that's being kind)? Why can't they just be evil men without all the other baggage? The good king is brave, moral, proud and acts/dresses accordingly. The evil queen, I mean king, is covered in decorative chains/piercings and behaves like an arrogant little child that is very confused about his masculinity.

Extras

  • Commentary By Director Zack Snyder
  • Frank Miller's Vision Realized in Film
  • "300 Spartans - Fact or Fiction" Featurette
  • "Who Were The Spartans?" Featurette with the Actors
  • Additional Scenes of the Traitorous Hunchback and Never-Before-Seen Giant Warriors
  • Webisodes

Recommendation

This could possibly be the most entertaining action movie released on dvd in 2007. It will never be considered a "classic" due to it's simplicity but it will always be a film that entertains.
