Pros |
I'm not even sure where to start but here's a good start:
- The movie, though 40 years old, has never looked or sounded better. It's always nice to see what can be done without using CGI and the soundtrack is a classic.
- It hasn't really dated that much largely due to the fact that NASA people were brought in and helped design what they believed the future entail; ships, video phones, food in tubes for space, zero-gravity toilets, artificial gravity, etc.
- The extras are worth the cost of the movie by themselves. It includes everything a fan would want including Arthur C. Clarke dispelling the constant rumors that the computer was named after IBM (each letter in the computer's name is one off).
My favorite movie quotes comes from this the movie. It was made by the computer during a difficult time for it; "I feel much better now; I really do."

Cons |
Movies 1/3 this long has more dialogue than this movie. I suspect most young attention-starved movie goers today would consider this to be an extremely boring movie and when you find a negative review about this film, one of them wrote it. |

Recommendation |
If you're a sci-fi fan you already have the first DVD release of this film on your shelf. You can do three things with it; give it away, sell it or turn it into a coaster. You must by this version, period! |
