Plot

It's 1879 and a tribe of Zulus has wiped out over 1200 British troops. All that is left is a small mission used as a hospital run by a rather pompous and inexperienced officer (Caine) and a group of engineers; total strength of about 100 men. What ensues is a power struggle between Caine and the ranking officer of the engineers (Baker) as they prepare for the inevitable attack. Add to this group a reverend and his daughter for their moral "outbursts".

Pros

This is the perfect example why one should never underestimate an opponent. The fights are well choreographed and the soundtrack does its job. And if you dislike blood & gore, there is very little of it considering the death and destruction this film portrays.

Cons

At 138 minutes, this move tends to drag at times.

Recommendation

This is still a good war movie that holds up even after 40+ years.
