Plot

There are two types of people now on the planet; humans and mutants. Mutants all have their own unique powers that basically scare the shit out of the powerless humans. The mutants are split into two camps; the good mutants lead by Professor Xavier (Stewart) and the bad mutants led by Magneto (McKellen). Xavier believes that everyone should just get along and live in peace; Magneto believes that there will be a war and he’s going to see to it the mutants win.

Pros

First off I have never read this or any other comic books so there is no way I can do a comparison. This movie does a good job of introducing everyone to the uninformed such as myself and has a strong "can’t we all just get along even though we are different" message. The special effects are good and if you want extras, look no further.

Cons

Since much of the movie is spent introducing everyone to the audience, the plot is very thin. They make up for this with a cool battle in the end and it was set up for a sequel.

Extras

  • 6 Deleted Scenes With Optional Director's Commentary
  • "The Uncanny Suspects" Preproduction Featurette
  • "X-Factor: The Look of the X-Men" Costume Featurette
  • "The Special Effects of the X-Men" Visual Effects Featurette
  • "Reflection of the X-Men" Retrospective Featurette
  • Exclusive Movie Premiere Footage
  • Multi-Angle Scene Studies
  • Animatic to Film Comparisons

  • 3 Theatrical Trailers; 9 TV Spots; 12 Web Interstitials

Recommendation

A fun movie with lots of extras; even more than I’m willing to sit down and watch to completion (I skipped to the ones I was interested in). By pressing a button during the extras every time a circled X appears on the screen, it will take you to even more extras; a bit annoying since you have to have remote in hand.
