Plot

A police officer (Cage) is on leave after witnessing a horrific car accident that killed a mother and her daughter. He receives a letter from an ex-fiancé stating that her daughter has disappeared and she needs his help. She lives on a private remote island off of the coast of the state of Washington. Being the caring and good guy he is, he finds his way to the island to discover that the people there are less than willing to help find the little girl.

This is the remake of The Wicker Man released in 1973 starring Christopher Lee.

Pros

Nicholas Cage is the main actor in this film and is in every scene so if you're a Cage fan this is good news. The story is much more interesting and suspenseful than the original and the video is stunning.

Cons

If, like me, you're a big Leelee Sobieskie fan, you will be disappointed in how little screen time she gets.

Extras

  • Commentary by Director/Writer Neil LaBute, Actress Leelee Sobieski, Actress Kate Beahan, Editor Joel Plotich, and Costumer Lynette Meyer

Recommendation

If you have bothered to read any of the reviews on other sites you already know this is one of the most despised movies ever made; according to some it's the worst movie of 2006. Having said that, almost ALL of these reviews are written by people that loved the original which meant this movie didn't stand a chance. If it alters any from the original, which it does, it's blasphemy. If it's almost identical to the original, like the remake of "The Omen", then why bother. I watched the original about three weeks ago and I'm in the vast minority believing this film is even better. If given the choice of which to watch, I would choose this version hands down.
