Plot

An English singer (Andrews) is poor and looking for a job in Paris. She meets a gay man (Roberts) who convinces her pretend to be a man and to perform on stage as a female impersonator. This is not a movie, it's the actual filming of the show on Broadway.

Pros

Lots of humor and some very good performances. Rachel York was especially good portraying a ditzy blonde girlfriend from Chicago. Julie Andrews looks and sounds younger than you would expect from a lady at the age of 60.

Cons

This runs for 2.5 hours and the story is interrupted for long solos for Ms Andrews.

Recommendation

First off I am not a big fan of musicals. I can count the ones I do like on one hand with fingers to spare; Moulin Rouge and Phantom of the Opera (2005) are the two that immediately come to mind. Having said that, this is still an entertaining show; it would have been more so if they would have shaved about 30 minutes off of it.
