Plot |
Uzumaki is apparently Japanese for spiral. A young woman first notices that her boyfriend's father is acting strangely while staring at a snail on a fence. He won't be the only villager to become obsessed with items shaped like spirals. What is happening in this village?

Pros |
The Japanese have a way of making horror movies more interesting than we (Americans) do. We desire lots of violence/gore, some nudity/sex and a well-defined explanation at the end (unless, of course, the movie people are already thinking sequel); they do not and this film is a prime example of that. I enjoyed how the viewer was slowly pulled in and the surprise and abrupt ending. |
Cons |
Now you know what not to expect and the ending will leave many people dissatisfied. |

Recommendation |
Japanese horror films are not for everyone but this might not be a bad movie to start with. You have good character development and a mystery that, at least for this film, isn't completely solved; I for one would like to see this story continued. And, while you're at it, see if you can spot spirals on the screen at different times during the film. |
