Plot

A German submarine (U-Boat) is damaged in the Atlantic by a destroyer. An American submarine is refitted to look like a U-Boat and is sent out to capture her. Then for a little drama, the American captain (Paxton) had just vetoed his exec's (McConaughey) promotion to captain prior to debarking on this mission.

Pros

There's nothing like a movie on a cramped leaking submarine to make people respect WWII submariners. The cast for this movie is top notch, especially McConaughey and Keitel. They did an outstanding job showing the claustrophobic conditions the crew had to endure on those WWII submarines, how decisions had to be made instantaneously. Top that off, the story rarely ever slows down. And ladies, not only do they give you McConaughey but they also throw in Jon Bon Jovi (if you can recognize him).

Cons

This is a Hollywood movie with a crew surviving impossible odds time after time, not a war documentary. Yes there was an Enigma machine recovered from a scuttled German U-Boat by the British, not the Americans; something acknowledged before the final credits rolled.

Recommendation

This is a very entertaining fictional WWII action film with some great acting and special effects. There aren't many extras on this disc but they are certainly worth taking a look at.
