A criminal (Penn) is heading to California with a bundle of money when his car blows a radiator hose in the middle of the Arizona desert. He pulls in to the small town of Superior to have it fixed. Here’s a little of what he encounters:

• A smartass redneck mechanic (Billy Bob) that really makes the movie.
• A seductive young lady (Lopez) and her jealous husband (Nolte).
• An alcoholic sheriff (Boothe)
• A psychic blind Indian (Voight)
• A young lady (Danes) looking for a new boyfriend and her boyfriend (Phoenix) that’s just looking for a fight. (It’s ironic that a Johnny Cash song seems to be playing in the background of most of his scenes eight years before he actually plays the man in black in "Walk the Line".)

During his stay he is robbed, seduced, assaulted and solicited to commit murder (most of these happen more than once).

This film is a lot of fun and if for no other reason watch it to check out Billy Bob Thornton. He is wise for an uneducated man and has some of the best lines in the movie.

For some people this film will have too many twists. Just when the plot starts to settle in it will abruptly change directions all over again.

Watch this every time you thing that you’ve had a bad day. When it’s finished, your day won’t seem so bad after all. This is one messed up little town.

Note: This movie earned its R rating so you’ll want to keep the kiddies out of the room while you’re watching it.
