Plot

It's 1982 in the Antarctica when a Norwegian helicopter swoops down on an American outpost shooting at a dog. The two Norwegians are dead so the Americans decide to fly over and see what is going on while the dog is nice and safe in their camp. Oops!

Pros

John Carpenter never strays from the story with unnecessary subplots and it takes no time at all for the story to pick up speed; character development is done in conjunction with the story not ahead of it. There are no distractions and all of the characters are unique and well acted. I also happen to agree with the director that an all male cast made for a better movie; lots of testosterone in the air. And for a movie that's over a quarter of a century old, the special effects still hold up.

Cons

I am a HUGE dog lover; some of the scenes are very painful to watch. I could have also lived without all the needles that are used.

Recommendation

I do not know why it took me over 25 years to sit down and watch this film. This is one of the best horror/sci-fi films in my collection and will see the inside of my DVD player many more times in the future.
