Plot

An archeological expedition, led by Christopher Lee, in Egypt discovers a new and undisturbed tomb. There are warnings on the door to not disturb the tomb but do the archeologists pay heed? Of course not; they in turn suffer a very unique ending! Twenty years later his granddaughter and her team come back to try again and all mummy hell breaks lose.

Pros

This is an interesting and unique telling of a common story; tomb disturbed - monster reeks havoc. It gets credit for originality, and the acting at times is actually quite good.

Cons

The main issue with this film is the mummy and the script. Without giving it away, the depiction of the creature for most of the film is comical at best; not scary. If this had a cheesy 'B' movie script, this would have been fine; it didn't. For the most part, the acting was good until you include the American detective (Jason Scott Lee). His completely emotionless persona works until he's in a scene where's he's trying to show emotions. And, maybe it's just me, there were times when I simply couldn't understand what he said and had to back up and crank up the volume to do so.

Recommendation

What made me return to this film after watching it many years ago and thinking it stunk was the list of actors in it that I recognized. It wasn't so bad the second time around. This was filmed like a blockbuster movie without the budget or script. They should have replaced Jason Scott Lee with Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness fame) and turned this into a fun movie. If you're a big horror movie fan, take the time to check it out. If not, there are plenty of good movies out there to choose from.
