Plot |
A barber (Depp) is falsely convicted of a crime and removed from his home in London so an evil judge can have his wife and daughter. Fifteen years later, the barber returns with a different name to seek revenge. He teams up with a pie maker (Carter) to help him with his plans and to provide her fresh meat for her pies.

Pros |
This is a very dark but also very funny movie with Carter getting the bulk of the really good lines; you'll have to pay attention to catch them all or turn on the subtitles. Depp and Carter are perfect together and Rickman, as always, plays the "bad guy". This movie did receive an R rating for graphic blood violence; this is true but some of it is so over-the-top that it's actually funny. Nonetheless, you'll want to keep the kiddies out of the room. |
Cons |
This is a musical and I've never been fond of musicals; having said that, all the actors did they're own singing and they did a very good job. Also, if you're paying attention throughout the movie, the ending is fairly predictable. |

Recommendation |
If you're a fan of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman this is a no brainer; even if, like me, you're not a fan of musicals. This is a dark yet funny movie that only Tim Burton and this outstanding cast could pull off. Take the time to check out all of the extras especially the making of on disc 1 and the interviews on disc 2. This is a film I plan to revisit in the future. |
