Plot

This film is based on the making of the 1922 film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror with a twist; what if the man playing the vampire was really a vampire? How far would the director go to make the ultimate film?

Pros

The two lead actors; Malkovich as the head-strong "finish-at-any-cost" director and Dafoe as Max "I'm a creepy guy playing a vampire" Schreck. They obviously spent a lot of time researching the original film to accurately recreate the shots. The supporting cast was also very strong. Eddie Izzard was the perfect choice to play the unsuspecting realtor; his ability to do really outrageous facial expressions was spot on (if you haven't seen any of his comedy routines you should; I wonder how much it cost them for him to dress as a guy). Catherine McCormack was also good as the spoiled drug addicted actress; did anyone actually recognize it was her before reading the credits? I didn't.

Cons

Too short. It's only 11 minutes longer than the movie it's pretending to film. They could have at least touched upon the scene in the inn with the gypsies and the scene when the main character is picked up by the carriage.

Recommendation

Fans of the original Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror will like this film; you don't have to be familiar with it but it certainly doesn't hurt. All-in-all, this is simply a fun movie with some very good acting.
