Plot |
After surviving the Amazon, an anthropologist is sent to Haiti to look into the rumors of a drug that literally turns people into zombies. No, not the fun-loving brain-munching zombies we all know and love but people that for all practical purposes appear dead but are in reality fully conscious but incapable of moving or responding to stimuli. Of course not only is Haiti the home of a ruthless government but also voodoo.

Pros |
There's a touch of reality to this film that is a nice change of pace. Yes, some of the supernatural, especially the ending, is a bit over-the-top but everything in between is plausible. And is there nothing worse than being awake but unable to move/speak while you are being buried alive (I won't even mention the pet they through in the casket with him to keep him company)? Even though there are some disturbing and gory scenes, I didn't feel any of them came close to being too much. |
Cons |
Horror fans will want more horror and reality fans (this is loosely based on a true story) would want less of the unbelievable stuff. The ending just made me shake my head. |

Recommendation |
This is a fun little movie that kind of has it's on niche; horror but not too much horror. If you're interested at all in voodoo then this is right up your alley. This is a fun way to spend 98 minutes and I hope they decide to give it an upgrade on DVD in the near future. |
