Plot

A young teenage boy (Osment) is dropped off at his great uncle's (Caine, Duvall) house by his irresponsible and conniving mother (Sedgwick). She wants to do her own thing and is hoping that her son will find the uncle's fortune that is supposedly hidden on the property. Other family members are also vying for this hidden treasure. The uncles aren't to thrilled with the kid showing up on their doorstep but quickly warm up to him and tell him of their adventures for the 40 years they were missing.

Pros

Look no further than the story and the three main actors that play it out. This movie will not only keep your attention, but will provide you will a full range of emotions; most of it humor. Even though the ending could be called sad, when you think about it, the ending was perfect.

Cons

This is a PG movie, so don't look for any adult themes. If it wasn't for a couple of humerous scenes with shotguns, this would have probably been rated G (but this hasn't been dumbed down for children like most G movies).

Recommendation

This is a movie you can watch with your entire family (children/grand children, parents/grand parents) or just with friends; it's a crowd pleaser. I actually wish it would have been longer than it's 109 minute runtime. It will never be put in the same category as some of the classics but should be watched nonetheless. The extras are worth the hour or so to check out.
