Plot |
Two good looking American couples are vacationing in Mexico when they stumble across yet another attractive German tourist that invites them to visit an ancient Mayan temple that, for reasons unexplained, has so far escaped attention. Horror movies are like episodes of the original "Star Trek". In the TV show everyone showing up on the planet's surface in a red uniform died. In horror films it's the pretty people that must die so we always have some around.

Pros |
You have to give the movie kudos for originality; the location and antagonist isn't something seen in most films of this genre and they do not waste a lot of time getting to know the characters before the fun starts. The actors pulled this movie through with flying colors; they truly make you believe the danger they're in. I liked the way their friendships slowly dissolved over time due to stress. And yes, the gore was in many ways original and very well done. |
Cons |
The best they could do is vines with noisy flowers? |

Recommendation |
I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I ever thought I would and that's largely due to the cast and script. I did not read the book so I can't compare the two. Is it worth a Blu-Ray purchase, only if you're a diehard horror fan or just have to have the best picture possible. If you don't fall into those categories, you'll want to check out the regular DVD. |
