Plot

A group of tourists visiting Australia take a boat tour to see the local crocodile wildlife. Just when they are ready to turn back, emergency flairs are noticed in the distance and they go to investigate. As the DVD cover suggests, their tour is going to take a turn for the worse.

Pros

There are a lot of really positive things to say about this movie; unusual for a creature feature. The first thing you'll notice is the gorgeous Australian countryside; it definitely makes me want to visit. The next thing that will probably catch you by surprise is that the tourists are actually interesting people with varied backgrounds and ages. Most horror movies like this are just filled with young good-looking people that get killed while having sex. Last, but not least, is a realistic crocodile; it doesn’t look like something a nine year old generated on their computer. Yes, it looks large but if you watch the documentary on this disc, you’ll find out that its size was not only realistic, but there are many documented crocodiles that are that size and larger.

Cons

Without giving away the plot, it has to do with the small island they get stranded on and why the tour guide chose to steer the boat there as opposed to the river banks.

Extras

  • Audio Commentary with Writer/Producer/Director Greg McLean
  • "Making of Rogue" Featurette

Recommendation

Wow, this greatly exceeded my expectations. Finally, a horror movie involving a realistic creature and real people; not just a CGI feature with stupid teens getting killed in various stages of undress and drunkenness. This is to crocodile movies what "Jaws" is to shark movies and will be seeing the inside of my DVD player many times in the future.
