Plot

A reporter (the very lovely Lucy Lui) wakes has had a bad evening; she was kidnapped by some vampires and then wakes up in the morgue. She spends the rest of the movie hunting down the people that did this to her; one-by-one.

Pros

Lots of Lui (and in a scene or two I do mean LOTS of Lui) with plenty of gore for everyone. She did a very good job with her character; dispensing justice and one-liners with equal ease. James D'Arcy and Carla Gugino played a good villainous couple (though we didn't get to see nearly enough of the latter even though her character was a significant one for the plot). Michael Chiklis playing an out-of-control alcoholic cop certainly wasn't a reach for him ("The Shield&quo;) but he wasn't in the movie as much as I was expecting. And for those Marilyn Manson fans out there, of which I am one, see if you can recognize him without his contacts and makeup.

Cons

This movie still has the feel of a B-rated horror film even though it has some name stars in it. There are numerous plot holes that they could have filled in with little effort. And why, oh why, can't films be shown in chronological order? Not everyone can pull this off like Quentin and I do wish most of them would stop trying.

Extras

  • Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes (a total waste of time)
  • Storyboards

Recommendation

How do you react to the following statement: "Lucy Lui kicks ass and seeks revenge against the vampires that turned her!" If you're male, the answer is most likely "Hell Yeah! Where's the popcorn?" If you're a female I suspect you'd rather watch something else. This was also Mako's last film prior to his dying of esophageal cancer.
