Plot |
The film opens up with the election of Tony Blair as Prime Minister and then quickly steps to Princess Diana's death. This is a look at the week after Diana's death, how it affected the nation/world and how the traditions of the Royal Family conflicted with today's traditions.
|
Pros |
An excellent look at the modern Royal Family; not one of the many historical ones. Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen were perfect in their representation of the Queen and Tony Blair. Mixing in video that was taken of the crowds at the time after her death and of Diana herself was a nice touch. I wonder how many other wives in the world would consider being called "cabbage" by their husband a good thing? |
Cons |
Where are the extras? The one on the disc is nice but all too brief. Do I smell a double-dip in the future? And even though the movie is almost two hours long, I wanted more. Maybe the double-dip will be a director's cut. If so, I'll bite. |
Extras |
- Commentary by Director Stephen Frears and Writer Peter Morgan
- Commentary by British Historian and Royal Expert Robert Lacey
- The Making Of "The Queen"

Recommendation |
If, like me, you remember Diana and her death, you will certainly want to watch this film. You will be surprised at how quickly it's over and will be impressed with the actors they chose for this movie. This film is tasteful and respectful; well done. |
