Plot |
It starts out where the last movie left off as the gang tries to find a ship and crew so they can go to Davey Jones Locker to rescue Captain Sparrow. After that, things become very confusing.

Pros |
Johnny Depp continues a role he has invented/perfected and if you're looking for lots of pirate action, look no further. And even though I do not fully understand how Keith Richards is still alive (is he animated or just pickled), seeing him in the movie for the one scene was pretty cool (if you're one of the two people in the world that didn't know, Johnny Depp based his character on Richards). |
Cons |
What a mess! There are six people that are given writing credit for this film. I suspect that they sat around the table tossing ideas in the air and instead of picking out the best ideas and throwing away the garbage, they simply decided to use everything. I'm guessing their thinking was if it worked in the first film lets use it excessively in this one; multiple Captain Jack Sparrows, hundreds of pirates, seemingly endless fight scenes, nonsensical plot twists (and there are way too many to keep track of) and a new sea "creature/character" (Calypso) that serves absolutely no purpose. There's a good 45-60 minutes of fat that should have been trimmed from this carcass. And everyone that felt that the "Braveheart" speech towards the end of the movie would have inspired you to fight please raise your hand. Yep, that's what I thought, no takers. |

Recommendation |
The last two movies of this series should have been made as stand-alone films; there are two major plots that could have easily been separated into their own storylines. I can't count the number of times I looked at the timer on the dvd player to see how much longer this film was going to ramble on. Yes, there are fun scenes in this movie and tons of action but who can keep track of it all? A note to Disney; you left it open for a 4th installment so if you decide to make it, please do us a favor and get it right like you did with the original and not do it haphazardly like the last two just to make a buck! |
