Plot

A down-on-his-luck pirate (Depp) comes into port after being kicked off of his own ship by his men. He gets arrested and after an attack on the city by his ex-ship, is inadvertently freed. He and the town blacksmith (Bloom) go after the governor's daughter; the blacksmith's would be girlfriend, who was abducted in the raid. The rest, simply put, is a ton of fun.

Pros

Johnny's Depp portrayal as Captain Jack Sparrow is spot on (he was supposedly basing his performance on Keith Richards; the guitarist of The Rolling Stones). There is humor mixed in throughout the movie and it isn't just geared towards children as one would expect since it is a Disney film inspired by a Disney Park ride (I wonder how many parents had to explain what a eunuch is). There are memorable humorous quotes throughout this film.

Will: "This is either madness or brilliance."
Jack: "It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide."

Cons

Nothing unless you were expecting something more adult oriented.

Recommendation

A good film for the entire family except for the very youngest (even though most people I know let their preteen kids watch it also). The length, 2.5 hours, might be a bit much for some people but the time really does fly by. You'll also want to take some time and watch the extras on disc two.
