It's New Year's Eve and a ship, The SS Poseidon, is on its final cruise heading to be junked. The Captain (Neilson) wants to take is slow but the buyer's representative wants to get there as quickly as possible to save money. Obviously it doesn't make it or there wouldn't be much of an adventure. It doesn't take long to figure out which people on this cruise will be the ones left trying to survive. If you're on a ship that gets turned upside down, always follow the lead of the rebellious preacher, especially when he's Gene Hackman! :-)

The video quality is excellent for a movie that is over 30 years old and the special effects are pretty amazing considering the complete lack of CGI back in 1972. Combine that with some good sets (many of them built upside down), a decent script and an experienced cast and you have an enjoyable movie. And for you guys, there's quite a bit of eye candy on this boat and they're all wearing short shorts.

I'm not an expert in capsized ocean liners, but I kind of doubt one would stay afloat for this long. And why do the annoying people, especially small children and constant whiners, always survive the longest?

I also wonder why Gene Hackman did not participate in any of the extras, the rest of the crew that was still alive did. I hope it didn't involve greed.

If you enjoy good old fashioned survival movies or you're a big Gene Hackman fan, you'll definitely want to pick this up. The extras alone are worth the price of this set.
