Plot

A scrupulous book dealer is hired to find the two existing copies of a book owned by a rich and eccentric collector. What starts off as a simple quest leads to murder and an occult sect trying to bring back the Lucifer himself; though unbeknown to everyone is that he's right there in front of them.

Pros

I've always been fascinated with movies dealing with the occult and this one is very well done. The mystery/suspense builds for most of the movie and the film was well cast. I liked the way little clues and pieces of information were disclosed throughout the film and how Depp's quest evolves.

Cons

Most of the film, like many horror/occult films, was filmed in the dark. Very few scenes take place in daylight so you'll want to make sure to watch this at night in a dark room so you can see everything. If you're not paying attention or simply don't understand what's really happening during the film, you may not like the ending.

Recommendation

If you're interested in this type of a movie or are simply a Johnny Depp fan, you will enjoy this film; I watch this film a couple of times a year. Without giving anything away, I love the little twist that Polanski added to this film that many people just don't get; hiding something in plain site is effective. I just wish they would have turned on some lights on the sets.
