Plot |
An adventurer and librarian hook up to find the hidden treasures at the lost Egyptian city of Hamunaptra. In the process, they awaken a, you guessed it, mummy that is out for revenge and to resurrect the love of his life.

Pros |
This has everything I'm looking for in a film when I just want to kick back and enjoy the ride it provides. It has lots of action, wonderful humor/one-liners, good chemistry between the actors, great special effects (even by today's standards) that are a must-see in high-def and a little romance for the ladies. It's obvious that the writers took their time with this film and it was worth it. "He must have been someone of great importance. Or he did something very naughty." |
Cons |
If you're looking for a horror film like the one this was loosely based on, the 1932 version with the same name starring Boris Karloff, you will be disappointed. This is an adventure/action flick that happens to have one bad-ass mummy and some of his undead friends with lots of CGI. |

Recommendation |
If you enjoy this film as much as I do, the upgrade to Blu-Ray is a no-brainer; the video is crisp and the sound will shake your walls. Pop some popcorn and invite over some friends. This movie's sole existence is to entertain and it does that very well. It had been awhile since I saw it last and had not only forgotten how much fun it is but also just how freaking adorable Rachel Weisz is. :-) |
