Plot |
The best way to refer to this movie is that it's a work of fiction that used a historically true event as its inspiration. Two FBI agents are sent to rural Mississippi (a county who's name was made up) to investigate the disappearance of three civil right activists. One agent (Hackman) is from the "South" and understands how things should be done. The other agent (Dafoe) is a naive Northerner that believes in doing things by the book.

Pros |
A very strong story with excellent acting by its leads; Hackman, McDormand and Dafoe (the first two were nominated for Academy Awards for their roles). |
Cons |
First and foremost, even though this isn't stated up front, this is a work of fiction. If you didn't know better, you would believe this was a historically correct movie. I will say one thing for this movie, they not only didn't leave out a single stereotype concerning the South, they shove them in your face for the entire two hours. |

Recommendation |
This is an extremely powerful movie, I just wish they would have done one based on the truth. But, then again, the truth is rarely as entertaining. |
