Plot |
Follow the life of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, from when he became emperor at the age of three until the later years of his life when he was a simple citizen.
|
Pros |
This is the first film ever shot in the Forbidden City. It provides a very good look at how the royalty lived in China in the early 20th Century. The acting by all parties is excellent; you can easily see why this movie won 9 Academy Awards. How could any movie not be good when Peter O'Toole is involved? |
Cons |
This version, the Director's Cut, is over an hour longer than the version that was seen in theaters and won all the awards. This is a case where more is not better; it is easy to see why it was cut and what was probably removed; you'll find yourself staring at the clock from time-to-time. |

Recommendation |
In spite of it's length, this is a very good film. I hope they release another version in the very near future that includes the theatrical release; I'd love to see it. |
