After an exciting but unsuccessful attempt to obtain an idol, Indiana Jones is approached by the government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis do. The Nazis are hoping to use it as a weapon in the war and Indiana wants to find it because of it's historical value.

This film is cleverly written and masterfully executed by all involved. It is interlaced throughout with action and a lot of humor (as long as you're paying attention to the dialogue). The cast was smartly selected including Harrison Ford (Tom Selleck was the first choice but, in my opinion, fortunately couldn't do it due to TV obligations), John Rhys-Davies, Alfred Molina and the spunky Karen Allen as Indiana's old flame. They also throw in a stereotypically evil Gestapo agent and his German Nazi friends for good measure; leaving no doubt who the bad guys are.

You will have to suspend belief with some of the action that takes place in this film; but not as much as you will in future Indiana Jones films like "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" when you almost have to turn your brain off altogether.

This is the first and best of what has turned into, at this time, four different Indiana Jones movies. Most movie fans, myself included, consider this a classic and should be sitting on the shelf of everyone that enjoys film.
