Plot

A doctor subjects himself to a series of tests that cause him to turn into the Hulk every time his pulse reaches a certain level; mostly when he's angry but he also discovers something else that can do it. He escapes to try to find a cure while the military hunts him down. They want him back and will do anything to make it happen.

Pros

I liked the way they handled telling the story of how he became the Hulk; done in the movie's opening with bits and pieces divulged during the film as opposed to spending 30-45 minutes of real-time explaining something that most everyone already knew or could quickly figure out. Selecting Ed Norton to play the unfortunate doctor and William Hurt as the General who's a bit out of control was great casting. They also make the audience wait awhile before they get a really good look and the Hulk. The CGI was well done and it will definitely keep your speakers busy. And they managed to keep the overall runtime down to a manageable length.

Cons

I like Tim Roth a lot, but he was not as convincing as the gung-ho Army Captain that he needed to be; someone younger with more bulk than brains would have been more appropriate. Liv Tyler does a good job as the Hulk's girlfriend and as a serving of eye candy; I wish she would have been given a little more to do than that. And why is the military ALWAYS portrayed as the stupid, out-of-control bad guys in movies? Where are the good old days when it was just the Russians?

Recommendation

If you thought "Iron Man" was too much talk and not enough action then you'll love this film. This film isn't as smart, nor as funny, but it will definitely give you bang for the buck. Invite some friends over and make sure you have plenty of popcorn to go around.
