Plot

A lawyer (Cusac) and his slightly insane partner (Thornton) steal $2 million dollars from the mob at Christmas time. Their plan is simple; steal the money and leave town. If it was that simple, there wouldn't be a movie. Throw in a drunken friend (Platt) who married the lawyer's ex-wife and a lovely owner (Neilson) of a strip club that the lawyer is currently in love with and you have a rather convoluted Christmas movie.

Pros

The two best things about this movie are Thornton's humor/sarcasm and Neilson's beauty. Add an obnoxious drunk, some needless violence and a strip bar full of mostly undressed women and it's a good time.

Cons

This movie tends to drag from time-to-time which is fairly amazing considering that it runs for less than 90 minutes.

Extras

  • Audio Commentary with Director Harold Ramis
  • Alternate Endings
  • Outtakes with Billy Bob Thornton
  • "Cracking the Story" Featurette
  • "Beneath the Harvest" Featurette
  • "Ice Cracking: Analysis of a Scene" Featurette

Recommendation

It's an interesting movie with a number of twists. If you like dark movies with some characters that you wouldn't necessarily want for friends, give it a shot. If you're looking for a light movie that takes place at Christmas that has a happy ending, look elsewhere. Check out the extras if you'd like to see Thornton go into his "Sling Blade" mode.
