Plot

Just prior to the Earth being destroyed, a man is transported to an alien ship by a friend that he does not know is really from another planet. They end up hitching a ride with the President of the Universe who is wanted for stealing the ship they are now on. And who does the Earthling see on the ship but the woman he fell for earlier in the week at a party that he didn't leave with.

Pros

Great cast even with the actors that only lent their voices; especially the always depressed robot Marvin (Alan Rickman). There's plenty of humor, you might miss some of it if you're not paying attention, and it's amazing what the Henson people can do with costumes. And I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for Zooey Deschanel's name when scanning IMDb or the local dvd shelves.

Cons

The ending. Ok, it doesn't annoy me as much as the ending to "The Search for the Holy Grail" but it seemed so anti-climatic. The movie is such a fun ride that I felt the ending should have been equally enjoyable. Oh well......

Recommendation

I'm one of the few "geeks" that have never read this book so I can not make any comparisons. If you like British humor then this is a must; if not you should still find it very entertaining. It's a bit silly but I suspect you'll find yourself wanting to watch it more than once.
