Plot
Based on the novel "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirly Jackson, this is a basic haunted house story. The house has been left unoccupied for the last 90 years after a string of mysterious deaths. A Dr (Johnson) arranges for himself and three other people to live in an old haunted house to do some observations of the supernatural. His guests include Eleanor (Harris), Theo (Bloom) and Luke (Tamblyn). Eleanor has lead a life very similar to the last occupant of the house, Theo is a women with exceptional ESP and Luke is the eventual heir to the house who's only concern is how much it's worth. |
Pros
Just a good old fashioned B&W haunted house movie. Unlike today's movies, the scares here are done with camera work and sound effects, not a lot of CGI and gore. All that's missing here is Vincent Price (then again if you're looking for him in a movie like this, check out the 1958 version of "House on Haunted Hill"). |
Cons
I really wish this was done in color, I'd love to see what the set would have really looked like. |
