Plot

The Green Mile is a series of death row cells in a Southern Prison; the name is derived from the fact that the floor is painted green. The story centers on the guards of the prison and their prisoners, specifically a very gentle giant of a man that has an ability that they can not explain. This is a story by Stephen King unlike most of his horror stories he's known for. I strongly suspect he had the initials of Mr. Coffey already picked out long before he came up with his name.

Pros

Being a fan of Stephen King's books I was happy to see that this film stayed very true to the book; so few movies based on his works do. The acting from everyone is outstanding, especially by Michael Clarke Duncan; you truly feel his pain and emotions. Unlike many movies where you remember one or two performances there are no fewer than seven memorable ones in this film. This is three hours that will pass by very quickly.

Cons

Without giving away anything I didn't care for the ending. It isn't something I believe Mr. Coffey would have wanted for his friend. Your adrenaline won't be flowing when this movie ends.

Recommendation

Don't let the fact that this is a Stephen King story worry you; this is anything but a horror film. This is a very emotional and personal movie with no real gore though there is one scene that is a little bloody. There is a very good reason why this movie is rated as high as it is at IMDb.
