Plot

This four hour movie shows in detail the events that took place during the three day battle at Gettysburg.

Pros

Everything! The battle was represented as how it really happened; no free-lancing skirmishes for dramatic effect. All of the actors (check out the names; you will probably recognize many of them) obviously took their roles seriously and having thousands of civil war rein actors with all their gear and passion certainly helped set the mood and theme. And last but not least is the incredibly poignant and passionate score by Randy Edelman.

Cons

This film runs at a little over four hours; something some people are unable to sit through in one viewing. Warning: this film pulls no punches when showing the violence and brutality of the fighting in the Civil War.

Recommendation

Civil War enthusiasts already have this film in their collections. History buffs and movie fans alike should take the time to check this out; history teachers should consider showing this to students. After you watched the movie, take a few minutes and check out the trivia section for this movie at IMDb. See if you can remember the very brief cameo made by Ken Burns or Ted Turner.
