Pros |
Even though this was based on the TV series by the same name, the creators decided to make this movie their own which was the right move. They included all the goofiness from the series without asking the two main characters to simply act like their counterparts in the TV Series. First off, there is only one Don Adams and despite all the talent Steve Carell has, he wouldn't have been able to pull that off. Anne Hathaway plays a stronger Agent 99 than Barbara Feldon but that's OK, this movie needed someone to "guide" Smart around for awhile and it allowed better chemistry and wit between the two characters. And guys, if you thought Anne looked good in previous movie roles, wait until you see her in the party dress she wears for the dance scene in this film. ZZ Top put out a song called "Legs" in the 80's; I'll just leave it at that. |
Cons |
If you’re looking for a movie that will make you roll on the floor clutching your stomach because you're laughing so hard, look elsewhere. There are a couple of moments like that but this is more of a light-hearted movie that makes you chuckle a lot. And, to attract the teen audience, they did mellow things out enough to get a PG-13 rating. Now, let's get to disc 2 that is supposed to have all the extras on it. What the h*ll? There's barely 30 minutes of extras! Yes, the packaging is creative (a plastic phone shoe that unfolds) but don’t expect it to fit on your shelf. My advice, if you don’t just have to have the shoe packaging stick with the single-disc version. |
Extras |
- Play the movie in Comedy Optimization Mode - See the alternative jokes that didn't make the film while you're watching the film
- "The Right Agent for the Right Job" Behind-the-Scenes Featurette
- "Max in Moscow" Featurette
- "Language Lessons" Featurette
- "Spy Confidential" Gag Reel
- "Spying on Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control" Featurette

Recommendation |
This film was much more entertaining than I thought it would be. If you're a fan of the TV series, keep your eye out for at least one cameo from an actor that starred in it (unfortunately it wasn't the lovely Ms Feldmon). If you're a collector and have to own the plastic shoe then go ahead and get this version. Nobody should buy the regular 2-Disc edition for any reason unless you're kids/dogs are looking for a new Frisbee to play with. |
