Plot

It's 1888 and London prostitutes are being stalked by Jack the Ripper. A young detective (Depp) with some psychic abilities, along with an Opium addiction, is on the case. He falls for Mary Kelly (Graham) and he tries to solve the case before she becomes a victim.

Pros

First and foremost, it stars Johnny Depp (I've yet to find something he's starred in that I haven't liked). The colors are stunning and the story will certainly keep your interest; some "experts" believe there is some truth in it. This is an interesting look of the different classes of citizens that existed at the time. If you're interested in the story of Jack the Ripper, you'll want to take the time to check out the extras on disc two.

Cons

This movie earned its R rating for gore, drug use and sexual content. This isn't a movie for the kiddies. It is a little long; you'll find yourself looking at the clock from time-to-time.

  • Full Length Commentary by Directors Albert & Allen Hughes, Screenwriter Rafael Yglesias, Cinamatographer Peter Deming and Actor Robbie Coltrane
