Plot |
A space cruiser is sent to a planet to discover what happened to an exploration ship that went there 20 years earlier. The ship's captain is played by Leslie Neilson when he was playing serious leading roles. Upon their arrival, they learn that there are only two survivors left; Dr. Morbius (Pidgeon) and his daughter Altaira (the most beautiful Francis). They soon discover that there is more than meets the eyes, and in the case of Altaira, some of it is most pleasant. As you can guess by the title, this isn't a "friendly" place.

Pros |
To put things into perspective, take a couple of things into consideration; this movie came out ten years before "Star Trek" and twenty one years before "Star Wars". The special effects and sets are way ahead of their time. They're at the very least just as good as anything done on "Star Trek". It was fun watching what they thought the future would look like. And for us guys, I can promise that if we were teenagers in 1956, if we had any posters on the wall they would be of Anne Francis. What a beauty! Oh, and for you "Lost in Space" fans, this is where Robby the Robot is introduced; eleven years before the TV show.

Cons |
Of course, by today's standards, the movie is dated. |

If you're a Sci-Fi junky, this is a must. If you're not, you'll still find this movie very entertaining. |
