Plot |
Korean legend, good vs. evil, good dragon vs. evil dragon of all of its minions, pretty girl must die to save the world and after a flashback to 500 years ago, everything now takes place in modern Los Angeles. That may sound a little convoluted but that's the basic plot.

Pros |
The CGI whether it's the opening battle scene that takes place in Korea (I can't help but wonder how many times the writer/director watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and most of the scenes involving the dragon(s). The lead actress (Brooks) is a lovely lady and there is a little bit of humor; that's about it. |
Cons |
Wow, this movie really got ripped up by reviewers when it came out and I can understand why. It's as if so much attention was paid doing the CGI/special effects that somebody forgot to write a good script; the actors in this film didn't have much to work with. Since the director and writer was the same person, it's his shoulders that bear this weight. And don't even get me started on his evil army, its bland and stereotypical leader and all of the LOTR/Jurassic Park creatures. And one last thing, if it's the goal of the bad guys to capture this girl alive, why do they continuously do things that can easily kill her (shooting explosives randomly into her village (flashback), shooting fireballs at the car she's in, throwing other cars at her, etc.)? After watching the extra and seeing the passion the director/writer had in this film, it's really hard to go negative on it but he didn't leave me any other choice. |

Recommendation |
Do you want to really enjoy this film? If so, this is what you should do. Invite a few friends over on a Saturday night and make sure the fridge/ice chest is full of beer. Start the evening off at 6:00 pm and watch Dragonheart. Counting beer/bathroom/smoke breaks, this should take about two hours. Follow that up with either Reign of Fire or Dragonslayer, a simple vote should resolve that debate, and that will knock out at least another two hours. By the time that's over and everyone is primed and relaxed (in more ways than one) enough to sit down and watch this film it should be around 10:15 pm. You might even consider making it a Mystery Science Theater moment and have some fun.
The movie isn't the worse ever made, there's some cool special effects and it had a good premise; unfortunately it failed in its execution. Maybe, in spite of it obviously being geared toward American/European audiences, it was more suited for the Korean moviegoers (this is a Korean made film). If I'm simply in the mood for some cool dragon CGI, I'll put this in the player. If I'm in the mood for a good dragon/fantasy movie, I'll look elsewhere.
