Plot
An insurance man (MacMurray) and the seductive wife (Stanwyck) of a well-to-do businessman conspire to have the husband killed so they can collect on the insurance. First they have to sign him up for the insurance and then eliminate him. Hot on their tale in an insurance investigator (Robinson) convinced that the husbands death was no accident. |
Pros
There are a lot of good things about this film; storyline, casting, acting, very crisp video. It's fun seeing what couldn't be shown in film in 1944 that is common place now; namely sex and violence. We know that their kissing leads to sex by the fact that the kissing scene then cuts to the two of them, fully clothed; he's leaned back enjoying a smoke and she's reapplying her makeup. They couldn't even show the husband being killed. |
Cons
The language is dated, I suspect if I referred to female coworkers as "sweetheart" I would be in a little bit of trouble, and her hairstyle is unique to say-the-least. |

Recommendation
Another film classic that is rated #38 at American Film Institute Top 100 movies of all time and justifiably so. A must see for any movie buff and a film that will be watched more than once. |
