Plot

Scotland is walled-off after a deadly virus ravages its population in an effort to keep the virus from infiltrating England. Three months later, the virus appears in England and a team is sent into Scotland seeking the doctor that was searching for a cure; satellite pictures show that there were survivors. Oh, and by-the-way, the survivors have formed two warring factions.

Pros

This has all an action/apocalyptic movie needs; grotesque corpses, gunplay, hot looking women, crazy survivors, car chases, tons of violence, corrupt governments and an attractive heroine to cheer for while wearing tight form-fitting clothes.

Cons

This is really nothing new, just a bunch of pieces from other movies thrown in together. You have the crazies from the "Mad Max"e; films going against "King Arthur"; an apocalyptic virus like "28 Days/Weeks Later" almost wiping out an entire population; the hero having to go into an cordoned off area for a rescue like "Escape From New York". If you look closely you'll think our heroine looks a lot like Kate Beckingsale from "Underworld" which is a good thing since she will be playing the lead in the next movie in that franchise. And don’t worry if you bought this on Blu-Ray, about half-way through they actually do film in daylight.

Extras

  • Audio Commentary with Director Neil Marshall and Cast Memebrs Sean Pertwee, Darren Morfitt, Rick Warden, and Les Simpson
  • U-Control
  • "Reaper Virus Files" Featurette
  • "Tech Specs" Featurette
  • Picture in Picture

Recommendation

This is a brain-dead action film that will take full advantage of your sound system. It’s entertaining but nothing original; I suspect it was done to ride the wave of recent apocalyptic movies that have been hitting the big screen. Fortunately for me, I really enjoy brain-dead action films that actually provide some entertainment.
