Plot

The Boston police are trying to take down the city's biggest mobster (Nicholsen). They send in an undercover agent (DiCaprio) while the mobster has his own people that have infiltrated the police.

Pros

All you have to do is look at the cast and the director to realize that this is going to be a special film. All the leads (Nicholson, DiCaprio, Wahlberg, Damon) pulled off their roles to perfection. The last 30 minutes have enough twists and turns to keep everyone's attention.

Cons

Some people will be turned off by the length of this film (151 minutes) but still flows good. My only complaint is that they never show what is in the envelope that Billy (DiCaprio) gives to Madolyn (Farmiga). Why have an envelope and not show the viewers what was in it?

Extras

  • Nine Additional Scenes with Introductions by Director Martin Scorsese
  • Feature-Length TCM Career Profile "Scorsese on Scorsese"
  • "The Story of the Boston Mob": The Real Life Gangster Behind Jack Nicholson's Character
  • "Crossing Criminal Cultures": How Little Italy's Crime and Violence Influence Scorsese's Work
  • Theatrical Trailer

Recommendation

If you've got 2.5 hours of spare time and you like any of the other Scorsese mob movies this will certainly be worth your time. And if you have kids be warned, this movie definitely earned its 'R' rating.
