Plot |
A cab driver (Foxx) goes on shift expecting another dull night of driving customers around Los Angeles. He has two fares of note; one a beautiful lawyer (Smith) with whom he strikes up a good conversation with future contact a definite possibility and that of a real estate agent (Cruise) who wants to pay him for his services for the evening. He has five different stops and then wants to be returned to the airport. Of course, if he really was a real estate agent, this would be one boring movie.

Pros |
This can more easily be done in a list:
- Lots of humor, mostly in the form of sarcasm.
- Strong plot that doesn’t drag; there are no dead zones in this film.
- Tom Cruise plays a really good bad guy. He should entertain doing more films like this as opposed to the "cute guy that always gets the girl in the end" ones he seems to like so much.
- Jamie Foxx. At the time of this writing I’ve yet to see "Ray" (the film that garnered him an Academy Award), but he was outstanding in his role. Yes, he can do serious parts. Now, after these two films, will somebody, anybody, please tell me why he did "Stealth"?
- The ending! Finally! To my knowledge, a first! I won’t ruin it, but it’s about damn time.

Cons |
Don’t get excited when you see the character played by Jason Statham at the beginning of the movie. The 60 seconds or so that he’s there is all you’re going to get. Too bad they couldn’t have given his a larger role; maybe that of the lead detective. |
Extras |
- "City of Night": Behind the Scenes of "Collateral"
- "Visual FX": High-Speed Action on the MTA Train
- "Special Delivery": Tom Cruise Gets Into Character
- Rehearsing Footage With Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx
