Purchase

Plot

Follow two store clerks during an average day at work; one works in a convenient store and the other in a video rental store next door.

Pros

This is a conversation-based movie that discusses everything from smoking, sex, Star Wars, contracting, sex, guidance counselors, stupid people, dating, sex, drugs, street hockey, behavior, sex, personal responsibility, infidelity, hermaphrodites, necrophilia, sex and more that I've probably forgotten. Silent Bob even speaks even though it was out of necessity; not something that was in the script. You've got to watch the extra "Snowball Effect: The Story of "Clerks"" if you're even remotely interested in Kevin Smith and how he got to where he is. It's amazing how many times it looked like he would never have a career in making movies.

Cons

This is a low budget black & white film so do not adjust your set. Also, try to go into it with an open mind. The first time I saw it I didn't really think highly of it because all my friends had told me it was a must-see and one of the greatest films ever made. Those are awfully high expectations to meet. I came back to it later and loved it.

Recommendation

If you're easily offended by foul language or sexual innuendo, you will want to stay far away from this film. If like me and you're not, this is a clever and funny movie. Film fans are very fortunate that despite all the odds, Kevin was able to get this film sold to Miramax. If you own the single-disc DVD, give it to a friend and run out to buy this one; you will not regret it.
