A young man (MacLachlan) comes back to his small hometown when his father is admitted to the hospital. While he is home he finds a human ear in a field and turns it into the police. The Detective's daughter (a 19 year old Dern) feeds him some additional information and they become Frank Hardy and Nancy Drew and attempt to solve the crime on their own.

Dennis Hopper plays the crazed bad guy. That alone makes the movie worth watching. You also have good performances by both female leads; Laura Dern and the always lovely Isabella Rossellini.

The movie does tend to drag in the beginning but once it picks up, it maintains a steady pace. It also contains a fair bit of drug use, violence, sex and nudity.

If you're not offended by anything listed above, this movie is definitely worth checking out. If you're a fan of "Mullholland Dr", a movie done later by the same director, you should like this film.
