Plot

A kingdom is being constantly attacked by a mysterious creature known as a Grendel. The King (Hopkins) calls out for help which brings the very self-confident warrior Beowulf to his shores to rid them of their monster and to deal with its mother.

Pros

This film has a fairly impressive cast and many of the visuals, when it isn't so dark, are quite stunning.

Cons

Too much time was spent on the look of the film and not enough time on the script. If you're looking for a dialogue rich film with a deep storyline, look somewhere else.

Extras

  • "A Hero's Journey": The Making of Beowulf
  • "Beasts of Burden": Designing the Creatures of Beowulf
  • Creating the Ultimate Beowulf
  • The Art of Beowulf
  • Deleted Scenes

Recommendation

I suspect they kept the rating down to PG-13 because they realized who their target audience was going to be; 13-14 year old boys that don't care about substance but only care that the movie looks cool. If you're interested in CGI-heavy films there have been two released in the last two years, this and 300. Beowulf is for the younger crowd where 300 is for adults.
