Plot

This movie starts after the Germans have captured Dunkirk. Watch how the outmanned/outgunned English Air Force holds back the German onslaught keeping them from invading English soil.

Pros

First off this movie is historically correct as far as the battles go. It factually portrays the strategies and, in the case of the Germans, the errors that were made. The fight scenes were well done largely due to the fact that the plane they needed to film this movie were still available; there was no such thing as CGI in 1969.

Cons

Michael Caine's lack of screen time and the obligatory personal story that always has to permeate war films; this one between a pilot and his volunteering and somewhat defiant wife (yawn).

Recommendation

This is an entertaining and abbreviated history lesson on the Battle of Britain for people that hate documentaries/textbooks. Fortunately the Spanish Air Force still had a lot of German planes for sale that was used in this film. The dogfights were well done and I like the fact that they paid attention to historical accuracies.
