Plot

Forget everything you remember from the last four Batman movies (five if you count the silly one from the '60s), Warner Brothers has decided to restart the franchise by starting the story from the beginning and making it a lot darker. You'll see how Bruce Wayne becomes the caped crusader and acquires his wonderful skills and toys to assist him in his fight against crime.

Pros

All you have to do is look at the stars in this film (Caine, Freeman, Oldman, Neeson, Haur) to see how serious they were about remaking this franchise and major kudos to Bale for pulling off the starring role. This film is dark and action packed; especially once Wayne becomes Batman. And the villains were real and believable people; not something out of a cartoon.

Cons

Katie Holmes is very cute and can act but does anybody believe she's a hardened District Attorney? She looks more like she should be getting ready for her date to pick her up for her High School prom. And don't get into a major hurry to see Batman, almost half the movie is spent on his journey to get to that point Now for my major complaint, the movie is simply too long. Each scene had it's own message for the viewer but these messages could have been combined into individual scenes. If this was a Director's Cut then I'd have no issue with this, but this is a theatrical version and there simply wasn't enough delivered to justify the almost 2.5 hour runtime. After all, how many times do we need to be reminded that Bruce Wayne is afraid of bats?

Recommendation

Even though it kind of sounds like I didn't like this movie, I really did. I would have just preferred a version that was 20 minutes or so shorter. Was double-dipping by picking up the Blu-Ray worth it; oh yeah!! This franchise is back in good hands!
