Plot |
This is a film that depicts the life of Howard Hughes from the late 1920's to the mid-to-late 1940's highlighting all of his successes and failures; both professional and personal.
|
Pros |
You can't do a movie like this that is almost 3 hours long unless you have a strong lead; Leonardo DiCaprio proved to be more than up to that challenge. He's gone from a pretty boy to an outstanding actor in the last six years starting with, in my opinion, "Gangs of New York". And speaking of good acting, Cate Blanchett did something I didn't think could be done; she nailed the role of the famous yet eccentric Katharine Hepburn. It couldn't have been easy taking on a role of an iconic and unique actress that many people still know and admire today. |
Cons |
If you're not into aviation history or simply aren't interested in Howard Hughes, the three hour runtime will simply be too much despite the quality of script and the outstanding performances on screen. |

Recommendation |
If you don't know anything about Howard Hughes you should watch the 45 minute documentary about him on disc two before watching this film. His contributions to aviation were tremendous and he should be remembered more for them than his eccentricities brought on as he got older by his obsessive-compulsive disorder. |
