Caesar Augustas (O'Toole) is at the end of his reign and tells the story of how he got there, the decisions he had to make and their repercussions.

Peter O'Toole of course. He is one of a handful of actors that if I see their name on the front of a DVD I automatically pick it up. Having Charlotte Rampling as his counterpart in late life was also an excellent decision. The acting was exceptionally good (especially for a made-for-TV movie) and there were no dead spots even though the movie is three hours long.

This has many of the same pitfalls as other made-for-TV movies; full-frame picture, low budget, no real special effects, absence of blood-and-gore in spite of the intense fighting, quite a few unknown actors and no nudity (though many of the ladies are certainly easy on the eyes).

If you like political intrigue/maneuvering and are fond of this time period this is a must see. I would rather watch this than most of the other films about this time period/subject matter. Did I mention that I'm a huge Peter O'Toole fan? :-)
