Plot |
Caesar Augustas (O'Toole) is at the end of his reign and tells the story of how he got there, the decisions he had to make and their repercussions.

Pros |
Peter O'Toole of course. He is one of a handful of actors that if I see their name on the front of a DVD I automatically pick it up. Having Charlotte Rampling as his counterpart in late life was also an excellent decision. The acting was exceptionally good (especially for a made-for-TV movie) and there were no dead spots even though the movie is three hours long. |
Cons |
This has many of the same pitfalls as other made-for-TV movies; full-frame picture, low budget, no real special effects, absence of blood-and-gore in spite of the intense fighting, quite a few unknown actors and no nudity (though many of the ladies are certainly easy on the eyes). |

Recommendation |
If you like political intrigue/maneuvering and are fond of this time period this is a must see. I would rather watch this than most of the other films about this time period/subject matter. Did I mention that I'm a huge Peter O'Toole fan? :-) |
