Plot

A satellite returns to Earth near a small town in New Mexico. It brought back something that has killed everyone in the town but an infant and an old man. Scientists are called up and meet in an underground five-story laboratory with its own self-destruct mechanism to solve the mystery before more people die.

Pros

Great sets (at least for 1971) and a good story. Everyone comes across as believable without talking over the audience’s heads.

Cons

Not much action. You’ll want to take a nap as the scientists work their way down to level number five of the laboratory. The movie runs a little long.

Extras

  • Making of "The Andromedra Strain"
  • A Portrait of Michael Crichton
  • Theatrical Trailer

Recommendation

This is a must for sci-fi junkies. If you saw 2001: A Space Odyssey and liked it, you’ll like this film. If you thought it was slow and boring, you’ll want to stay away from "The Andromeda Strain".
